I initially created this blog with the intention of sharing content related to skincare and healthcare, as these are the two topics I am deeply passionate about, and they both have strong connections to science. However, I faced challenges in getting the blog off the ground. It became one of those projects where you invest a lot of money but struggle to follow through with your goals. I managed only a few posts and garnered just a few views on my website.
Recently, over the past month and a half, I’ve been grappling with a profound sense of helplessness in light of the ongoing events in Gaza. I recognize that I am fortunate in some ways and unfortunate in others; I reside in a small town where global awareness is lacking, or people simply seem indifferent to international issues. Despite my privilege, it feels like I lack a platform to make a meaningful impact. I often feel like my words are falling into the void because it seems that no one around me is interested in what’s happening halfway across the world. For many, the situation in Palestine and Israel doesn’t seem relevant.
My original aim in creating this blog was to amplify the voices that often go unheard and to educate both myself and others about healthcare and skincare through evidence-based science. While this purpose remains important to me, I’ve decided to broaden the scope of my blog to address global injustices. Am I qualified to speak about global events? In short, no. However, I’m not one to let a lack of expertise deter me from learning. In the upcoming posts, I intend to embark on a journey of self-education about global issues. I must admit that, despite knowing people from Palestine and acknowledging it as an occupied land, I’ve never truly comprehended the extent of what an occupation entails. Moving forward, I am committed to learning more about the historical events that have led to the current situation in the region. While I’m uncertain if this endeavor will alleviate my sense of helplessness, it represents my personal form of advocacy.
Advocacy takes various forms, such as contacting your representatives to convey your views—a step we should all take. It can involve making donations to organizations working on the ground; I will also share information about the organizations I’ve researched and supported. Advocacy can manifest as participating in protests and using your platform to amplify the voices of others, and finally, it can be about learning from others. I am eager to learn about the experiences of Palestinians and how interconnected global issues are.
My primary goal with this blog is not to accumulate a large number of views. This is a profoundly personal endeavor undertaken for my own growth. If others choose to join me on this journey, I will be grateful, as it will confirm that I’m not alone in these feelings. If you do become a viewer, I encourage you to engage with this blog. Ultimately, I recognize that there are things I don’t know, and this blog represents my quest to discover them.
